The Tompkins Historical Society Freedom Festival and Steam is our largest event of the year in celebration of our community! Many events will be taking place such as:

Working Steam Engines, Museum Tours, Tractor Pulls, Blacksmith, Loom Weaving Displays, Car Show, Flea Market, Silent Auction, Food Vendors, and so much more!

The Tompkins Historical Society is proud to join Experience Jackson in the annual Jackson County Museum Day. We will be hosting tours of The Stewart Farm Museum, School House, Log Cabin, a plant sale, a bake sale, weaving demonstrations, and black smith demonstrations.  We also have our virtual experience as well if you are not ready to join us just yet.

The Tompkins Historical Society is having a Plant Sale along side with the Jackson County Museum Day on May 13, 2023. Pick-Up times will be scheduled. Located at the Stewart Farm Museum in Tompkins (10138 Tompkins Road, Rives Junction MI 49277).  Order Forms are now available HERE, and at the Tompkins Historical Meeting (3/20/23 and 4/17/23). This is a Pre-Order Only Plant Sale.  Please have your order forms and money in by 5/5/2023.

Trunk-N-Treat is a great family event with many fun activities planned. Bring your kids to trunk and treat and then join us for hot dogs, a bonfire, hayrides, candy, and more! 


Holiday Open House and Veterans Tree Lighting

Open House 4:00P.M to 7:00 P.M.

Tree Lighting 6:00 P.M. Downtown Tompkins Center

The Holiday Open House at the Stewart Farm 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Hot chocolate and cookies in the school house. Take a tour of the Stewart Farm with our curator. 10138 Tompkins Road Rives Jct. MI 49277. Then join us at 6:00pm at the corner of M-50 and Woodard Road to sing Christmas carols, and the festivities of the Veteran's Christmas Tree Lighting to celebrate the beginning of the Holiday Season. The tree is decorated with the names of Veterans from our area, or any Veterans whose names we are able to get. Please email Tompkinshistorical@gmail.com a any names that you would like to have on the tree. Veterans are either from current service or from any military situation.

Tractor Pulls 2023

Tractor Pulls will take place at Tompkins Center the second and fourth Saturday of the month, starting May through October, 2023. 


Registration begins at 9:00 am and the pulls start at 10:00 am.  Concession available.
